Gymnázium Jiřího Orten
Gymnázium Jiřího Ortena is a state grammar school providing students with general education. As a new school we offer a high level of technological and sports equipment that can be used within the school curriculum as well as extracurricular sports and IT courses. There are 29 classrooms in the school building. 18 of them are equipped for 34 pupils, while 11 small classrooms are used especially for language teaching. All the classrooms are equipped with an overhead or film projector, 13 of them with an interactive board. All computers in the classrooms are connected to the Internet.
We have a four years’ and eight years’ track (age group from 11 to 19 years old), the number of students varies between 450 and 500. The school is open to all students who pass their entrance exams. In the last two years of the studies at our school students can focus on their major subjects concerning their future careers by taking optional seminars and courses. Our teachers are also in charge of the following afternoon clubs: choir, martial arts, sports and games, climbing, training for language exams.
GJO regularly participates in student exchange programmes and other international projects; we have got partner schools in France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Slovenia. Having opportunities to involve our students in an international cooperation is one of the main objectives in our school. The use of languages that students have been learning, in practice and setting them into real situations when working with other young Europeans are the main effective instruments to prepare them for their future career.
